OSCUS

In OSCUS I teach to adults how to use a computer.

It was very interesting, during these three years working as a volunteer there, to try different approaches for teaching to people, who often have a very basic education, how to use a computer, use an email address and get acquainted with the resources nowadays even only accesible through the internet.

The organization :

OSCUS was created in 1902 by Dolores Sopeña to help analphabet population in Spain.
Since then the fundation grew and has extensions in Italy, Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, Chile, Ecuador, México and  Dominican Republic.

The activity of the fundation also enlarged to cover much more than alphabetization, but also giving courses to develop skills in marginalized and socially disadvantaged people . These skills are evaluated after the course and can then be cited as references for them at the hour of applying for a job.

Now OSCUS provides courses for informatics, cooking, geriatry, mathematics, languages, and of course alphabetization.

Every person that registers gets interviewed to know his background and possibilities. He can then choose the course he wants to receive and at the same time , he is automatically put a in job seeker database, where employers can pickup the worker they need, knowing that they have been referenced by OSCUS.
